The Thrill of Love
26th to 30th November 2019
A gripping drama by Amanda Whittington,  directed by John Burbedge.

Based on the true story of Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged in Britain in 1955 for the murder of her lover, racing driver David Blakely, this is the story of obsession; her obsession with the wastrel who scrounged off her for years and that of the detective who knows she did it, but wants to know why.
‘The Thrill of Love’ takes a fresh look at the woman behind the headlines.  Ruth Ellis, a divorcee with a young child to care for, works in the kind of nightclub where there’s more than drink on offer. Ruth works hard, plays hard, and dreams of freedom, among her friends who comfort and support her as she battles abusive lovers. Into her life comes the wealthy womanising David who could just be her ticket out, but instead gets shot.  Why?  …and why does she plead not guilty at her trial, but offer no defence?  Who is she trying to protect?

Please note that gunshot and flashing light effects are included within this production.
