Audition Notice for Same Time, Next Year by Bernard Slade

Familiarisation/Reading Evening Wed 25 June 7.30pm

Auditions Wednesday 3 September 7.30pm

Rehearsals start 6 October

Performances - November 25 to 29 2014

Same Time, Next Year ran for nearly 1500 performances on Broadway, also played the West End, and was filmed in 1978. It is set in the U.S. Accountant George and housewife Doris meet at a hotel in February 1951. They have an affair, and agree to meet once a year in the same room, despite both being married to other people and having six children between them. During the time they spend with each other, we learn about the births, deaths, and marital problems each is experiencing at home, while they adapt themselves to the social changes affecting their lives.

The characters have to age 25 years over the course of the play, and need to be able to show a whole range of emotions. The play is a comedy but does have some very dramatic and extremely sad moments. Obviously there is not going to be a "right age" for the actors in these circumstances, so I may decide to present the play with a younger George and Doris and an older George and Doris, which will give a new dynamic to the piece (and, on a practical note, reduce the lines to be learnt!)

If there is anyone who wants to audition and who cannot make the date, please would you get in touch with me by phone or e-mail.
