An exuberant comedy first performed
by The Hull Truck Theatre Company about four female fish factory (try
saying that drunk!) workers who, after one of them finds tickets, head
off to Royal Ascot. This event has been relocated to York for this year…
They get rid of the glumrags and get
on the gladrags and we see how they get on…
Also appearing is their supervisor,
a ticket tout, a TV pundit, an Irish Jockey, a gambler and a bookie.
All of these male parts can be played by one man, and this is how it
will be.
The Parts:
Pearl - A fish packer, mid-fifties
Jan - A fish packer, mid-forties
Shelley - A fish packer, mid-twenties
Linda - A (you guessed it) fish packer,
mid twenties
Joe - Their supervisor
Fred - A ticket tout
Jim McCormack - A TV pundit
Patrick - An Irish Jockey
Kevin - A gambler
Barry - A bookie
Don't pay too much attention to ages,
I'm far more interested in how the characters work together and balance
out. This goes for the male parts as well, if you can't do an Irish
accent go for it anyway; it's pretty easy to put a lilt on certain
words to give the effect.
