We will be holding auditions for this production at the Oakwood Centre on

Barefoot in the Park is a romantic comedy written by Neil Simon.. It opened on Broadway in 1963, featuring Robert Redford. The play was a smash hit, running for over 1,500 performances and was later turned into a very successful film.
Corie and Paul are newlyweds, fresh from their honeymoon. Corie is still enthralled by her the romance and excitement of their wedding and honeymoon and she wants this passionate life to continue at full speed. Paul, however, feels it is time to focus on his burgeoning career as an up-and-coming lawyer. When they don't see eye-to-eye about their apartment, their neighbours, and their attitude to romance, the new marriage experiences its first patch of rough weather.
The entire play takes place on the fifth floor of an New York apartment building, one without an elevator. Walking up the stairs completely exhausts the characters, granting hilarious, out-of-breath entrances for telephone repairmen, delivery men, and mother-in-laws alike.
Corrie Bratter- the newly wed wife (playing age 20's). Corrie embraces life as a series of exciting adventures. She is passionate, funny and optimistic. For the most part, she is the complete opposite of her husband.
Paul Bratter - the newly wed husband (playing age 20's). Straightlaced and conservative trainee lawyer. He finds it difficult to cope with Corrie's spontaneity - until he learns to compromise and walks "barefoot in the park".
Victor Velasco - the eccentric neighbour (playing age 50's)- a larger than life character who enchants Corrie with his zest for life and worries Paul. Just great fun to play!
Mrs Banks - Corrie's mother (playing age 50's). A widow living in New Jersey and worried about everything, including her health. She learns to embrace life with the help of Victor Velasco.
Telephone man - small part (but quite funny) - (playing age - flexible)
Delivery man - very small part (playing age - flexible)
In the 1960's and 1970's, Neil Simon was THE hitmaker of Broadway as well as being critically acclaimed for much of his work. Barefoot in the Park is a nostalgic reminder of life in this period when the worst thing that couples could argue about is a broken skylight and all conflicts could be resolved by making a fool of oneself. A gentle, life enhancing comedy which will hopefully enchant the Woodley audience. Lots of good 1960's music too!
I look forward to seeing you at the auditions.
We were all very disappointed when we had to cancel last year's production of Barefoot, and therefore delighted that we have made room for it in 2015. Although the production is not taking place until June 2015, we are auditioning now as I will be out of the country from the beginning of January to the end of March next year. Rehearsals will therefore not start until April - so plenty of time to learn lines! Look forward to seeing you on December 2nd. Please contact me if you have questions or want a copy of the script.
